Weekend on the River

Dates and times: 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21

Location: Homestead on Tanana River, 30 miles downstream from Fairbanks

Description: Weekend on the River is a long weekend retreat at a fish camp and homestead. Together we’ll learn about the river’s wealth of fish by cutting, drying, cooking, and making art/crafts with them. We’ll gather raw natural materials and transform them into practical items. We’ll explore beyond camp, gathering wild edibles and building materials, tracking animals, and enjoying the setting.

Cost: Adult: $250, Adult & one youth: $400. Scholarships and other options available.

Week in the Woods

Ages: 6 to adult

Dates and times: Saturday, June 22, 9 a.m. –Wednesday, June 26, 4 p.m.

Location: Deep in the Tanana Valley Forest (road-accessible)

Description: Week in the Woods is an opportunity to gather in the remote boreal forest, to learn and create. It is a rare chance to live and study with amazing instructors, including woodworkers, craftspeople, artisans, and naturalists. Participants will be exposed to new ways of seeing and appreciating the forest, experiencing the connection between natural history and the creative process.

Cost: Adult: $600, Adult and one youth: $900. Scholarships and other options available.
