The West Valley-Kodiak football game previously scheduled for Friday night has been moved to Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, Covid-19 was not the culprit this time.
Kodiak wasn’t able to arrive in Fairbanks on Friday as previously scheduled. They are slated to arrive Saturday morning instead. As such, the Wolfpack will play Kodiak at home at 2 p.m. on Saturday now instead.
The schedule change does affect another game in the area, however. North Pole was supposed to host the Bears two weeks ago, but the game was postponed due to two positive tests on Kodiak’s team. As such, the game was rescheduled to this Tuesday.
However, because the Bears won’t be playing until Saturday now, they have decided to forfeit Tuesday’s game to North Pole. The Patriots will now move to 4-1 and have officially clinched a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
North Pole head coach Michael Hollett confirmed the Kodiak forfeit.
With that, there will be two football games on Saturday. West Valley hosts Kodiak at 2 p.m. while Monroe hosts the Lathrop JV at 6 p.m.
This marks the ninth and 10th cancellation, postponement or alteration of the football season. The postponement of the West Valley-Kodiak game is the first one where Covid-19 was not a factor.
