UAF was just happy to welcome fans back to the Patty Center on Thursday night, though the result wasn’t what they were hoping for.

Friday night, however, the Nanooks were able to have their cake and eat it too as they collected their first home victory of the season and their first win in front of fans in two years.

The Nanooks got off to a hot start and managed to cling on for a five set victory against Drury 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 24-26, 17-15. It was somewhat of an upset win for the ‘Nooks as they are now 5-5 after handing Drury their first loss of the season (5-1).

UAF fell in four sets to Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday night in the Nanook Classic opening game, but the ‘Nooks were ready to roll Friday to even out their record. The Nanooks edged Drury on kills 65-50 and aces 9-3.

Lahra Weber and AveRee Reynolds led the Nanooks with 15 kills each as Weber also added four blocks. Sophie Schilling had a solid outing with 13 kills and four blocks while Cate Whiting continued her dominant season with 51 assists, 22 digs, and two aces. Emily Moorhead (six blocks), Rilee White (three aces) and Dani Dodge (26 digs) all helped lead UAF to victory as well.

UAF concluded their tournament on Saturday. Those results will be in Monday’s paper.
