The University of Alaska Fairbanks concluded their trip to Anchorage for the Seawolf Invitational Volleyball Tournament just the way they’d hoped.
After an up and down first two days of the tourney, the Nanooks concluded their time at UAA with a three-set sweep of Texas A&M International on Saturday. The ‘Nooks are now 4-4 on the season after sweeping A&M by a score of 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.
It was the final trip of the early going of the season for UAF. The Nanooks will now return to Fairbanks to host their own tournament beginning on Thursday. That tournament will run from Sept. 9-11.
For Saturday’s game, AveRee Reynolds led the way with a game-high 13 kills. She added a .312 hit percentage along with six digs and six blocks. Cate Whiting put up 35 assists, eight digs and four blocks. Dani Dodge led the way in digs with 18.
Whiting has been off to an outstanding start this season and her play was rewarded this weekend. Whiting was selected to the Seawolf Invitational All-Tournament Team. Whiting tallied 126 assists, 51 digs and 13 kills in four games in Anchorage.
UAF’s first game of the Nanook Classic is Thursday at 4 p.m. against Ursuline.
