The University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team returned to Alaska Thursday, but it wasn’t the homecoming they were hoping for.

Competing in the first game of the Seawolf Invitational, the Nanooks were swept by Missouri Central Jennies on Thursday night 17-25, 18-25, 18-25. The ‘Nooks are now 2-3 on the season.

MCJ is a quality opponent, no doubt. The AVCA had them ranked 18th in the nation, after all. Still, it wasn’t the performance UAF was hoping for after a strong showing in Hawaii last week.

Rilee White and AveRee Reynolds put up their usual strong numbers combining for 17 kills, nine for White and eight for Reynolds. Cate Whiting added 28 assists and grabbed another double-double with 13 digs. Dani Dodge led the way on defense with 19 digs and Sophie Schilling had the team-high in blocks with two.

The Seawolf Invitational continued Friday and will go through the weekend. UAF will return to Fairbanks for their home debut and tournament next weekend.
