The West Valley boys cross country team won their second state title in four years this past Saturday with senior Daniel Abramowicz taking home first overall. That much we reported on in Sunday’s paper.

There were a few details still coming in right as we were going to deadline. Let’s get you caught up on what we weren’t able to tell you then.

In addition to taking first place, West Valley also took home the Academic Award for highest GPA. Head coach Hannibal Grubis said the team will be going to the biggest race in the country in two weeks at Mt. Sac in California.

The West Valley boys finished with a final score of 72 while Lathrop finished in 10th place as a boys team with a score of 220. In the DII boys race, Galena came in 7th with 197 while Hutchison came in 8th with 219.

For the girls, West Valley was the top competing Fairbanks squad as they finished in 5th place with a team score of 136. Lathrop took 8th with a score of 211. In DII, Monroe Catholic finished in 6th place with 113.

Congratulations to all of the competitors on a great season and a huge congrats to Daniel Abramowicz and the West Valley boys team on winning state and making Fairbanks proud.
