The high school tennis season kept on rolling Thursday afternoon and evening and as per usual, we’ve got results for you.
There were two competitions on Thursday with both of them taking place at DRCTC. First up, the West Valley Warriors took on the Hutchison Hawks with West Valley winning by a proper score of 5-2.
The first boys singles match saw Cooper Irinaga of Hutchison battle it out with Cole Neal of West Valley with Neal winning 6-1, 6-1. The second boys singles went to the Hawks as Sedgiku Werdin-Kenicott defeated Manuel Lai 6-2, 6-4.
The Hawks won their second contest in a row with the boys doubles match. Irinaga and Werdin-Kenicott took down Ben Lassey and Cameron White with perfect sets of 6-0, 6-0.
Where West Valley got most of their wins was on defaults. Hutchison didn’t have a girl compete in the first girls singles and Anya McGee was forced to retire in the second set of her match against Morgan Ely. The girls doubels and mixed doubles were defaulted in favor of West Valley.
The next competition saw North Pole duke it out with Lathrop. The contest ended in a 6-1 victory for the Malemutes.
First up was the boys doubles as Lathrop’s Mathew Kim took a hard-fought victory over Wilson Wade 6-2, 4-6, 10-2. The second boys singles match was equally hard-fought as Beckett Eames of the Malemutes took down Riley Perry 6-1, 2-6, 10-2.
The boys doubles match also went to Lathrop as Gus Roklius and Aydan LaFond took down Aaron Zeisel and Bryce Wyman 6-2, 6-4.
The Patriots did manage to get once victory on the day in the first girls singles match. Senior Grace Sikorskie took down Fiona Beardsley 6-3, 7-5. The second girls singles match and the girls doubles match were both defaulted in favor of Lathrop.
The final contest between the two squads was the mixed doubles with the Malemutes securing victory. Tifani Hellcraft and Peter Park combined to down Sikorski and Wade 7-5, 6-0.
The last match of the day came between Ben Eielson and Lathrop. Perry Jones of the Ravens was defeated by Cael Platt 6-2, 6-0.
The tennis season continues this weekend as the Blue & Gold Tournament began Friday and continues through Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Regionals will begin Monday at DRCTC at 3 p.m.
