FAIRBANKS — More than 4,000 participants representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia have been competing at the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle.

FAIRBANKS — • Corey Cogdell — The Palmer native and Chugiak High School graduate earned her second bronze medal Aug. 7 in women’s trap shooting at the National Shooting Center in Rio de Janeiro. Cogdell earned her first bronze, and Olympic medal, in 2008 in Beijing. 

FAIRBANKS — Alev Kelter — The 25-year-old from Eagle River led fifth-place Team USA with five tries (scores)  in its six games of women’s sevens rugby. She also kicked four conversions to give her 33 points in her first Olympics.
