It seemed like all Naomi Bailey did when she was a student at West Valley was win. Should it be any surprise that she’s doing the same thing now at UAF?

Bailey, a freshman runner on the Nanook cross country team, took home first place individually in a head-to-head race against UAA on Saturday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. The Nanook women’s team won their 6k race against the Seawolves while the UAF men finished second.

The women’s team won by a score of 23-32 as Bailey led the pack with a finish time of 22:37.8. Rosie Fordham took home second place with a finishing pace of 23:22.2. Delainey Zock took home fourth place for the ‘Nooks with a time of 25:04.08 while Rya Berrigan took sixth place with a time of 26:08.3.

Rya’s sister Alia Berrigan was running her first race as a Nanook and completed the course with a time of 29:01.6, good enough for 10th place.

The men came up just short as they lost to the Seawolves 38-18 in the 8k race. Mike Ophoff was the top runner for UAF as he finished in third place with a time of 26:42.2

After Ophoff, Zephan Ozturgut was the next UAF runner to cross the finish line as he took seventh place with a time of 29:34.2. Nolan Ernest was right behind him in eighth place with a time of 29:56.6. Koen Ross took home ninth place with a time of 30:02.3 and Jack Carter rounded out the UAF group with an 11th place finish at 31:21.6.

UAF will have three weeks off before returning to competition Sept. 24 at Western Oregon University.
