After a week in which many Lathrop athletic teams were unable to play for a variety of reasons, the Malemutes sure had a busy Friday.

Lathrop’s football team didn’t play last week after agreeing to postpone their game with North Pole until the end of the month after the Patriots had a positive Covid test. The Malemutes were back in action on the road Friday night in Chugiak.

The week off didn’t slow down Lathrop as they rolled to a 56-0 win on the evening. The Malemutes are now 3-1 on the season.

Jarren Littell was the MVP of the game as he threw four touchdowns, ran for one more and kicked seven extra points. Dean Silva hauled in three of Littell’s touchdown passes while Kaine Clayton had what Lathrop Athletic Director Steve Sanazzo called “the TD of the game” with a 49 yard scoring run. Elijah Deans added a touchdown reception and a pick-six on defense.

The Malemute volleyball team had a rough go last week themselves. Due to Covid-19, they were forced to cancel their games last week, pull out of the West Valley Invitational last weekend, and move their game against Monroe Catholic this week back a day.

After losing to Monroe a few days ago, the Malemutes looked like they were back in control on Friday at the Valdez tournament.

Lathrop went 7-1 on the day and advanced to the Gold Pool Tournament as the number one seed, the best performance of any team on Friday. The tournament continued on Saturday and full results will be available in Monday’s paper.

Finally, there was the Malemute flag football team. They were unable to play last week as their only scheduled game came against West Valley and the Wolfpack had to pull out of that game due to Covid. Lathrop returned to play on Tuesday with a 30-0 romp of Hutchison.

The Malemutes were defeated by Chugiak 20-6. They had another game Saturday, the results of which will be available in Monday’s paper.
