To the editor: The new Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies needs a location in Alaska, and the Polaris Building needs to come down. The solution is right there on the front page of the News-Miner!
The University of Alaska is the premier arctic university with numerous research facilities already well established. Originally, Ladd AFB, and subsequently Fort Wainwright, was the home of the Arctic Aero-Medical Laboratory until 1967. Fairbanks seems like the ideal location for a new center to focus on arctic issues.
