FAIRBANKS — A 66-year-old woman was medically evacuated Wednesday morning after Alaska State Troopers were notified a member of a Sheenjek River rafting party was experiencing a medical emergency.

A helicopter from Fort Wainwright flew to the party's location and transported the woman to Fairbanks for treatment, according to an Alaska State Trooper news release.

The release did not identify the woman or describe the nature of her emergency.  The rescue effort was organized by the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center.

The Sheenjek River is a tributary of the Porcupine River and meets the Yukon River at the village of Fort Yukon, about 145 miles northeast of Fairbanks.
