ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The White House says President Obama has declared a disaster in Alaska for damage in November from storms, wind and flooding.
The major disaster declaration is in effect for damage Nov. 5 to Nov. 14.
The announcement says federal aid will supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by storms.
Funding will be available to the state and eligible local government and some private nonprofit agencies.
The funding will be available on a cost-sharing basis in the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the Bering Strait, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon regional education attendance areas.
Federal funding also is available to mitigate hazards.
Dolph A. Diemont will be federal coordinating officer for the recovery operations.
