JUNEAU, Alaska - A Washington state man has been sentenced to five years' probation for falsely reporting where he caught rockfish.
Steven Carr pleaded guilty to violations of the Lacey Act under terms of a plea agreement signed in August. Prosecutors say Carr lives in Anacortes, Wash., but fished out of Kodiak.
According to the plea agreement, in 2007 and 2008, Carr made several trips to catch rockfish, such as Pacific Ocean perch, in a closed area and later reported that he had caught them in another area.
According to the agreement, the value of the rockfish caught during the three trips in 2007 was about $125,000 and the value of the rockfish from the four trips in 2008 was about $146,000.
