JUNEAU, Alaska — A resolution introduced in the House would urge support for a maritime workforce development plan.
Kodiak Rep. Louise Stutes introduced a resolution Wednesday that would state the Legislature's support for the plan and encourage the governor to direct state departments to work on implementing the plan.
The workforce development plan was developed by maritime industry groups throughout the state in collaboration with the University of Alaska and some state departments. It details expected future need for maritime jobs, such as those in shipyards and on fishing vessels.
The resolution would call for a report to the Legislature on work done to develop the workforce by January 2016. It would also call for a member of each the House and Senate to act as liaisons to the committee.
