Come join the Friends of the Tanana Valley Railroad at Pioneer Park as we celebrate Locomotive No. 1's 120th birthday! Built in 1899, No. 1 holds the title of the first locomotive in the Yukon of Canada and the Interior and Northern parts of Alaska!

After arriving in Fairbanks in 1904, the Tanana Valley Railroad hosted a celebration to commemorate the completion of the rail line linking the towns of Chena and Fairbanks. This celebration occurred on July 17, 1905. This ceremony was complete with refreshments, local celebrities, and a golden spike driving!

After a century later, the Friends of the Tanana Valley Railroad are reenacting the original celebration at Pioneer Park! We invite you to join us for train rides, games, historical presentations, refreshments, and a golden spike driving! This is also a great chance to win one of six spots to ride in the cab of No. 1 and help operate the 120 year old locomotive! Tickets are available at the Railroad Museum until the drawing at the end of the ceremonies.

We encourage you to bring your best outfit from the Edwardian Era (1890 - 1910) and be a part of the official photos!
