Joseph and Susan Malen of North Pole are happy to announce the engagement of their son, Edward Malen, to Yu Chun “Jolie” Cheng, daughter of Hsiu-Duan Huang of Miaoli, Taiwan.

Mr. Malen is a graduate of North Pole High School and the University of Alaska Fairbanks and majored in Japanese Studies. He is employed by Explore Fairbanks as the Tourism Senior Sales Manager. Ms. Cheng is a graduate of Ming Chuan University in Taipei, Taiwan and majored in Travel and Tourism Studies. She spent one summer working at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. She is currently employed by TaskUs in Taipei, Taiwan. The couple met when Ms. Cheng was an intern at the State of Alaska Office in Taiwan.

Though they were engaged in Taipei in April 2018, the formal traditional Taiwanese Engagement Ceremony will be held in Miaoli, Taiwan on November 2, 2019 with members of the extended Malen family attending. The wedding will follow on February 15, 2020 at the Aurora Pointe Activity Center in Fairbanks.

Friends and family from Taiwan and the Lower 48 are hoping to see the Northern Lights as part of the ceremony! The couple will make their home in Fairbanks.
