ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Zoya DeNure has scratched from the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, becoming the fourth musher to do so since the race started nearly a week ago.
The 34-year-old Paxson musher scratched from the race Saturday morning in Cripple. The checkpoint is considered the halfway point in the race. Race officials say she scratched over concern for her dogs.
DeNure is a former fashion model who walked the runways in Milan, Italy and Shanghai, China.
The race started March 4 with 66 teams taking to the nearly 1,000-mile race from Anchorage to Nome.
