Yukon-Koyukuk schools plan 'virtual' holiday program

FAIRBANKS - Superintendent Kerry Boyd, is proud to announce that Yukon-Koyukuk School District’s sixth annual virtual Holiday Program will be held on Wednesday, from 10:15 a.m. to noon. The program will be aired at the YKSD river schools and at the main district office, 4762 Old Airport Way.

 Students in all nine of the YKSD river schools will sing and perform over video-conference. The songs will be in English, Denaakk’e (Koyukon Athabascan) and Menhti Kenaga’ (Lower Tanana Athabascan). Two schools will perform skits.  Some of the songs are “Jingle Bells,” “All I Want for Christmas is a Hippopotamus,” “12 Days of Christmas Koyukuk Style,” “Indian Christmas Hymn” and “Amazing Grace.”

 The river schools of Yukon-Koyukuk School District are Allakaket, Hughes, Huslia, Koyukuk, Nulato, Kaltag, Ruby, Manley Hot Springs and Minto. This geographical area is as large as the state of Washington. Through video-conference, students and staff are able to take Native language courses, art and hold professional development workshops.
