FAIRBANKS — A 12-year-old boy died after apparently being shot by another 12-year-old at a Fairbanks home Wednesday afternoon, according to Fairbanks police.

Police identified the victim as Malik Boykins.

Boykins did not live at the house, at Susitna Court in the Birchwood Homes neighborhood near Fort Wainwright, at which the incident occurred, Lt. Dan Welborn said.

Welborn said the other boy was a resident of the home. It was not immediately known if any adults or other children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

Police said the shooting was reported about 3:30 p.m. It was not yet publicly known who reported the shooting.

None of the several children and neighbors outside the house at the time reported hearing any gunfire.
