ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 77-year-old Anchorage woman long known for helping others is facing a hard time herself.

KTUU ( ) says Alice Lawrence can barely make ends meet and has a house with storm damage and a van that's used to pick up groceries that is falling apart.

Lawrence, who is known as "Mother Lawrence," continues to give out food and clothing to the needy from her Mountain View home even though she can barely pay the mortgage and utility bills. She says she also was the victim of thieves who stole all her money twice this year.

She says she still strives to help others despite her limited funds.
