FAIRBANKS — Ty Munson scored a hat trick and two other West Valley skaters had a pair of goals apiece, leading the Wolfpack to an 11-1 win over the North Pole Patriots in a Mid Alaska Conference high school hockey game at the Polar Ice Arena in North Pole.
Casey Lewandowski and Zack Ahiers scored two each in the conference opener for both teams and the Wolfpack got single goals from Eric Weber, Mike Olsen, Taylor Sawchuk and Gabe Rankin, who contributed the first of his high school career.
Stoshie and Skorluski and Zach Savereide distributed four assists each while Weber and Tayllor Geil had two assists apiece. West Valley gained single helpers from Lewandowski, Ahiers, Sawchuk, Keegan O’Brien, Logan Arpino, Jon Dixon, Paker Wallace and Cam Pommenville.
Freshman goaltender Lane Wood, in his first high school start, recorded five saves.
North Pole sophomore Carson Linnell denied Wood of a shutout, scoring his first career goal late in the first period with assists from Kiefer Raduenz and Jason Donald.
Patriots goalies Alan Heineken, Ian Hancock and Max Heineken combined for 31 saves.
“We had a couple of good games last week against West Anchorage and Dimond, and our guys were motivated to play tonight,’’ West Valley head coach Wayne Sawchuk said by telephone. “They worked hard in getting the puck to the net and capitalizing on our opportunities.”
West Valley is off until it faces visiting Juneau-Douglas and Colony during the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
North Pole returns to action for the inaugural Hutchison Tournament on Thursday through Saturday at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
The tournaments starts Thursday with North Pole facing Monroe Catholic at 4:15 p.m. and Delta Junction facing Hutchison at 6:30 p.m.
