Wolfpack boys, girls 7th at swim championships

FAIRBANKS — The West Valley boys and girls posted seventh-place finishes in the First National Bank Alaska ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.

The Wolfpack boys compiled 27 points to finish behind Dimond (131), Sitka (67), Kodiak (49), Thunder Mountain (47), Petersburg (44) and South Anchorage (39.5). North Pole finished 14th.

West Valley’s girls put 27 points on the board to finish behind Kodiak (100), Dimond (79), Ketchikan (78), Juneau-Douglas (55), Chugiak (50) and Palmer (35). North Pole was 19th with three points.

West Valley’s Tommy O’Donoghue had the highest individual finish for the Wolfpack boys competition by placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke when he was out-touched by Jonah Swanson of Juneau-Douglas. O’Donoghue also finished seventh in the 200

individual medley.

West Valley’s Louis Marquis captured third place in the 200 individual medley.

The Wolfpack finished fourth in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay races and

Martha Hood, who competes for the IDEA home-school program, was the top girls individual swimmer, by placing second in 50 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly.

West Valley’s top individual girls finish was by Kira O’Donoghue, who placed third in the 100 breaststroke. Cassidy Heaton notched a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle

The Wolfpack finished fifth in the 200 medley relay, seventh in the 200 freestyle relay and eighth in the 400 freestyle relay.

North Pole scored all of its in the diving competition as Cody Frazier took second in the boys compassion and Abby Hess was sixth in the girls event.
