FAIRBANKS — It’s been a slow snow season so far in the Interior, but that could change on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for heavy snow beginning Wednesday morning and continuing through Thursday for much of the central Interior.

Between four and 10 inches of snow could fall during the storm, with the higher totals in the hills north of Fairbanks.

That could go a long way toward making up Fairbanks’ more than 12-inch snow deficit. As of 8 p.m. Monday, Fairbanks had received only 14.8 inches of snow for the season. Snowfall from early Sunday morning to Monday evening totaled 3.5 inches.

Temperatures during the next few days are expected to remain a few degrees above and below zero.
