Blog: Raeder of the Lost Blog

Lovin' Lenny

Published Friday, March 28, 2008

As the Ice Dogs' season winds down, the team is auctioning off players' jerseys between periods of their final two games.

The big winner so far?

Well, besides the Ice Dogs, who are netting some cold, hard cash with each auction starting at $300?

John Lennartson.

The man fans affectionately call "Lenny" saw his sweater go for $800 Friday, easily the most of all the players who saw their gear sold.

“That’s my boss, buying it for 800 bucks,” Lennartson said.

Here at the Lost Blog, we'd be competitive about this kind of thing. I'd hope my used notebook, or story-worn dress shirt, or whatever they decided to sell, would pull down bigger bucks than anyone in the newsroom.

But Lenny doesn't seem that competitive. Maybe because he doesn't think he can win.

“I think Alex McRae might go higher tomorrow, might set a new record,” the assistant captain said.

Going higher would be impressive. Before this started, and before we had any idea the buku bucks these things were bringing, the Lost Blog had money on goaltender Cody Reichard fetching the most money.

We'll find out tomorrow (Saturday), when the last of the jerseys go up for bid.

“Reichard (maybe), but Alex McRae I think will go higher, which will really help out the team," Lennartson said. "I set a high bar, hopefully we can exceed it.”
