Blog: Raeder of the Lost Blog

Fans' Choice

Published Thursday, April 17, 2008

A few of your comments on the blog and on the search committee article gave me this idea — Alaska fans, who would you like to be your new hockey head coach?

The rules of the game -- keep it in the realm of reality here. So no suggesting Red Berenson or anything like that. UAF won't be stealing him from Michigan any time soon.

But other than that, let's hear it. Who tops your wish list?

Brian Renfrew is someone to ask (asst coach Mich State; former UAF assistant). Recent history suggests he will not be interested.

Also, keep in mind that former UAF coach Guy Gadowski was not an NCAA hockey coach when he was hired by UAF. He was coach of a minor league team, the Fresno Falcons.

Why limit the search to NCAA assistant coaches (which realistically is all we'll get for candidates, if the NCAA coaches fraternity is all we limit ourselves to).

No reason to limit them to NCAA assistants, that's definitely true. You always worry about recruiting, though, for someone who hasn't done it before.

That's probably the hurdle any non-NCAA person has to jump.

Patrick and Klippenstein would both be good hires. Last I heard from Patrick (Danny might have more in a story that will run in tomorrow's paper) he was interested in the job but hadn't sent anything in.
