Alaska is the big mystery on Super Tuesday
Published Monday, February 4, 2008
We're just a little more than 24 hours away from Super Tuesday voting in the 49th state, and there is no telling who could win the GOP presidential preference poll.
Alaska usually doesn't have much of a role in presidential politics. The state has only voted for a Democrat once in 1964, and there are only three electoral votes up for grabs.
But with such a wide open race, every delegate counts, and Alaska's 29 proportionally awarded delegates could make the difference in getting the party's nomination.
Unlike other leading states like New Hampshire and Iowa which have been polled almost daily about their picks for president, there's no official polling data about Alaska.
Former Massachussetts Gov. Mitt Romney seems to think he can win three-fourths of the delegates here and he sent one of his sons to campaign for him in Fairbanks on Friday.
Texas Rep. Ron Paul has a very strong presence in Fairbanks and throughout the state, and this analysis gives him most of the Last Frontier's delegates.
Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas has a small contingent of supporters in North Pole , and the ordained minister could get a lot of votes from religious conservatives.
A big question is what, if any effect John McCain's surge in national polls will have on Alaskan voters. McCain hasn't done any campaigning in the state, those I spoke to at the weekly meeting of the Interior Republicans on Friday seemed leery of him. One many said he was a "1960s Democrat" and he would stay home in November if McCain got the party's nomination.
Still, most of the other people I talked to said they were undecided. Will you be participating in the Republican preference poll? Do you know who you'll be supporting yet?

For those still uncommitted I would like to suggest you vote your principles instead of party line.
I am, and have been a Republican for many years, but I'm very close to quitting the GOP because I am fed up with them. This time around I am going to vote for Fred Thompson, not because I think he can win, although there is talk of a brokered convention, but because he's the only candidate that represented my Conservative principles. The other reason is, casting my vote for Fred is a protest vote. I want to show the GOP that some people will no longer tow the party line. Either they start backing real Conservative candidates again, or there will be a major exodus from the party.
Please consider voting for Conservative principles, please consider voting for Fred, even if you have to write him in.
And when people tell you to hold your nose and vote for candidate X you can proudly tell them... "Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil!

Thank you for voting for the only true conservative candidate.
"Bad officials are elected by good citizens that don't vote."
Andrew Lack, former President, NBC News
Personally, I don't believe you are a good citizen if you don't exercise your right to vote. That is my major reason for wishing to become a U.S. Citizen. I really hope my paperwork gets processed in time for me to vote in November.
Please, VOTE on Tuesday!
Ron Paul, as a strict Constitutionalist and state's rights advocate will respect the will of Alaskans regarding ANWR, medical marijuana, predator control, and all power over issues granted to the states and restricted from the federal government under the Constitution (see Article 1 Section 8 and the 10th Amendment).
Get out and vote, Alaska. Now's the time to make the Lower 48 aware that Alaskans want control of their own destiny!
