Gov. Palin will stop by

Published Thursday, February 7, 2008

Our editorial board sat down with a speaker phone in the conference room Tuesday and took about a half hour of the governor's time. It was generous of her to give us a full half-hour, plus some, after her "press availability" with the Juneau corps.

Conversation covered the gamut from Super Tuesday to Habitat Division, CON, Conoco Phillips, Exxon, BP and TransCanada.

I think the governor was reading my mind as editor Rod Boyce began to sign off. (If you ever stop by, beware that Rod is the official meeting time keeper). "I'll be in town next week," she interjected.

She'll be here for Heart Association fund raising, the Iron Dog finish -- and of course her son now is stationed at Fort Wainwright. And she said she could stop by the News-Miner if we had things to talk about.

We always have things to talk about with a governor when they're in town.

Always.

And so a face-to-face meeting time will be set. I hope this becomes a habit.

This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

We are fortunate to have a Governor of Sarah Palin's caliber. I appreciate her openess and her courage in looking out for the best interests of this state. I especially appreciate her standing up to Conoco Philips on the gasline issue. Their obvious p.r. campaign to promote their "plan" is a blatant slap in the face of all Alaskans and our leglislative process. I'm also grateful that she's the first politician I have ever seen that has gained the support and trust of both major political parties. We're lucky to have her here; the naysayers such as Green, Huggins, Halcro, Fagan, Harris, Stedman, etc. (what a motley bunch) will fade away into literal oblivion, remembered only as egotistical stains in this state's history. I imagine Palin will continue to ascend politically to the national level.

I reside in Anchorage and I'd like to commend the News Miner for it's overall fair and objective reporting, something sorely lacking in our city. Keep up the good work.

    Ak1st!
