Chamber pleas: Gas, energy, and BIOS

Published Wednesday, February 27, 2008

A team of folks from the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce are in Juneau this week to lobby on local issues.

Its legislative priorities for the year include: Quick progress on a gas pipeline, restoration of fish stocks to Interior lakes, energy efficiency upgrades for the Tanana Valley Campus, university funding, revenue sharing, alternative energy, and BIOS, among others. This last one has been an issue for a while. The whole project, which the statewide university system has described as something of a necessity, would cost more than $100 million. Interior lawmakers have considered lots of ways to fund it. The chamber suggests funding might be best accomplished through bonds.
