FAIRBANKS—Tuesday night’s high school wrestling dual meets belonged to the visitors.

The North Pole Patriots soared to a 57-21 win over the host West Valley Wolfpack in the first Mid Alaska Conference competition of the season. The visiting Eielson Ravens won 37-16 against the Hutchison Hawks in a meeting of Aurora Conference rivals.

Following the Thanksgiving break, the mats get rolled out again Tuesday, when West Valley plays host to neighbor Hutchison at *6 p.m. in a nonconference duel.

A non-counting tri-meet between Mid Alaska rivals Lathrop, North Pole and West Valley is scheduled for Saturday, Dec.1 at Lathrop. No starting time has been announced.

Five Patriots collected pins and two North Pole wrestlers won by major decisions in the West Valley gymnasium.

“We had a couple of guys out with injuries and some of our younger guys, unfortunately, didn’t have the success we hoped for,” West Valley head coach Norm Davis said by telephone. “North Pole has got a good solid team.”

Zach Curp registered a pin 49 seconds into his 182-pound match and the Patriots got other pins from David Hayden (195), Garrett Bennett (220), Dillon Walker (285) and Cole Vinton (98).

Moo Rogers (152) and David Best (160) recorded back-to-back technical falls North Pole.

West Valley’s Daide Agnew and Vince Fricilone picked up where they left off during the weekend in the Lancer Smith Invitational in Palmer.

Agnew, who won the 126-pound title in Palmer, scored a pin Tuesday in the 134-pound match. Fricilone, who placed fifth in the 160 division in Palmer, moved up 10 pounds against North Pole to record a pin.

“They both did what you expect your top guys to do — go out and get pins,” Davis said Tuesday.

Keyan Kincade won a 15-7 major decision against Andrew Hoffman in the 182-pound match to seal the team victory for Eielson

Eielson got wins by decision from Kalib Dunlap (126), Tyler Phillips (145) and Wyatt Dunlap (170); a pin by Nate Ezell (132); and wins by forfeit for Dakota Garner (113), Gage Gain (120), Ryan Crooks (152).

Hutchison’s Ryan Medrano won a 15-7 major decision over Clayton Innis in the 160 match. The Hawks got their other wins by forfeits for Elijah Evans (106) and Jesse Roehl (285).

The teams had double forfeits in four weight classes — 98, 138, 195 and 220 pounds.

The results of the dual meets are listed on the Scoreboard on page D2.
