FAIRBANKS — The Alaska Nanooks unveiled their 2010-11 college basketball schedules Monday evening with the men taking on a 26-game slate under coach Clemon Johnson, while the women will play 25 games under the direction of first-year coach Cody Burgess.

With the addition of Simon Fraser of Burnaby, British Columbia, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference returns to 10 teams for the first time in three seasons, giving each team 18 conference games. The men play eight nonconference games, while the women have seven. Both teams play just two nonconference games in Anchorage.

The conference schedule includes eight home doubleheaders at the Patty Center, but the doubleheaders are always against different opponents. The only time the two teams don’t play a home conference doubleheader is against the University of Alaska Anchorage.

The Alaska women are scheduled to play Anchorage Dec. 4, while the men host their intrastate rivals on Feb. 22. The men play at Anchorage Feb. 23, while the women close out the regular season at UAA on Feb. 24.

The men open conference play Dec. 30 at Northwest Nazarene.

Both teams play New Year’s Day games, with the men at Central Washington and the women at Seattle Pacific.

Burgess will begin her first season at the helm when the Nanooks host New Mexico Highlands Nov. 16-17. The North Star Invitational follows Nov. 25-27 with Alaska hosting Dominican, Mercyhurst and Fort Lewis, respectively. After opening conference play on Dec. 4 against UAA, the women play Dixie State and Minot State in Anchorage on Dec. 10-11.

The men open the season hosting the Alaska Invitational Nov. 18-20 against King College, Ft. Smith Arkansas and West Florida, respectively

The Nanooks play Benedict on Dec. 2, then host the Glacier Classic on Dec. 3-4 facing Tuskegee and Benedict, respectively.

Alaska wraps up its preseason schedule Dec. 18-19 at the AT&T Alascom Jamboree in Anchorage against Walla Walla and Florida Tech.

Both teams will host Blue-Gold scrimmages to kick-off the season, with the women’s game slated for Nov. 6 and the men’s game set for Nov. 12.
