FAIRBANKS - A 50-year-old Italian man was flown to an Anchorage hospital Thursday after crashing his motorcycle on the Dalton Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.

The motorcyclist, Italo Barazzutti, was driving a 1986 Honda south when he crashed near Prospect Creek, according to troopers. Response crews flew Barazzutti to Anchorage for medical treatment but Trooper Eric Jeffords said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Barazzutti, of Tolmezzo, Italy, has written books about his solo motorcycle journeys across Europe, Mongolia and Russia, according to his Web site, http://www.navigatorediterra.it. His most recent journey was a trek from the Tierra del Fuego in South America to Prudhoe Bay, which he began in 2009 in honor of his 50th birthday, according to blog entries.

The managing nurse at Providence Hospital’s critical care wing said Sunday that Barazzutti was a patient but could not release information about his condition.
