FAIRBANKS — Since September, elementary and middle school students across Alaska have been studying science, technology and health care in Alaska as part of this year’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Challenge “Body Forward.”

On Saturday, 32 teams and 17 schools will be represented in this year’s Tanana Valley Robot Rally at Ryan Middle School, showing off their LEGO League challenge skills.

Geared for ages 9-14, FIRST LEGO League uses theme-based challenges to engage kids in research, problem-solving and engineering. Judging takes place in four categories: Research Project, Teamwork, Robot Design and Programming and Robot Performance.

Several teams will be selected to represent Alaska in national and international competitions.

The competition begins with opening ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. Matches start at 12:45 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 4 p.m.
