Following the ceremony, volunteers from the campus, military and civilian communities will begin reading the names of the more than 6,500 service members who have been killed in action while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. U.S. Sen. Mark Begich will speak at noon, and Joe Fields, chairman of the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council, will speak at 5 p.m. The roll call will continue until the last name is read and will be followed by a closing ceremony, which will feature Eads singing “Amazing Grace” and a 21-gun salute from the Alaska Honor Guard. The ROTC will retire the colors.
