I always look at a project from the private enterprise side. If it is not feasible for private enterprise then government should stay out of it with their tax dollars.
Remember that we elected those borough assemply folks. When you see the warm and fuzzy ads from those running for office keep in mind that they get their warm and fuzzy feelings from spending your money!

If Fairbanks is so concerned about top notch fire service to this area how come all those houses next to Fred Meyer's are not covered in the annexation? This is a money grab and the Fairbanks Fire Department is running the city.....again.

So this superior city fire department will be sitting in the parking lot at Fred Meyer's watching a house fire next door being fought by an inferior volunteer fire department. In truth the only difference between the two fire departments is the pay scale.

We picked up 37 more students this year and the school district is feeling the STRAIN? Who is doing the whining? The school district or the press?

We got plenty of room for more students and your key term is "target number". This number is not a strain or stress number.

The article is informative but I will remember to check my "hype" meter whenever I see a Christi Hang article in the paper. Imagine if she saw some dude walking through a group of smokers in front of the Co-op downtown. The next day her headline would read "Witness reported man dying on 2 street"! ! !

I may be going overboard here. Ya think?

The Anchorage Daily News will try to "dePalinize" the Palin over 80% of us voted in as Govenor. She jumped into an arena of politics she was not prepared for and, misguided or not, played the role given her by those who thought they knew how to play the game.

She is back folks. She learned much from her national experience. It would be wise for both parties in Juneau not to question her convictions.

She won't have to suck up to Obama. He would be the fool to take issue with her on her role in the national campaigns.

Pay attention to what Govenor Palin does in these next two years. I think she will not change the convictions she had when she entered as our Govenor. Judge her leadership in the next two years. But do so with your own knowledge of the facts and not some implied hogwash like we have been getting for the last two months.

I voted for her to be our Govenor the first time and if she runs this next session like she did the last one I will vote for her again.....even if I didn't like the pipline deal!

On Alaska homecoming could be bumpy for Palin

Full disclosure does not prevent anyone from being swayed in the performance of their appointed or elected position. Review the "rest of the story" for appropriate standards before you apply needless restrictions that accomplish nothing. The "red tape" syndrome is obvious in the full disclosure requirements.

Do not confuse "financial disclosure" with "work performance". That line does not exist. The attorney and carpet contractor in jail for accepting bribes from a special interest group did, in their "work performance", pass higher budgets for education, social services, roads and other government services that they received a direct benefit from. How did full disclosure impact these decisions?

You don't need to know how much money my spouse makes! You don't need to know my net value and what property I own. You need to believe in the crap I am giving you in my policital campaign and base your decision on that. It's tradition!!!

I agree with the Denali boroughites. I also think the disclosure issue should be again addressed by our legislators and rewritten to mandate the same information you and I have to fill out to get a job.
What property we own, how much money we have and how much a working spouse makes is not related to the job or job performance.

Not to mention the fines that are assessed and the implication that a person simply trying to run for political office is now a "criminal" for missing something on the disclosure forms. Given the recent examples of press "dePalinizing" I don't want to be an implied criminal simply because I decide to run for an elected position.

If you want to be paranoid about something like this why don't you pass a law to keep lawyers off the Senate and House judicial committees....talk about a conflict of interest. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house!

Let the games begin! Going to be interesting to find out who the lead dog will be in the Senate if the count is an even 10/10. All should have waited a week to make sure who was in the game.

What's the rush? The outcome is always the same. The dogs are all hooked to the same sled and they all have to go right or go left when the lead decides which direction to go in the race to nowhere!

It was the government that put all refineries is the state of limbo they are in today. Do some research and you will find that new refineries are a thing of the past. Upgrading existing refineries is the norm because they have grandaddy rights under new codes that subject the refineries to unwarranted restrictions and excessive fines and penalties. New refineries would be spending more money on legal fees then on production.

No, we don't need the state to get into the refinery business. We need the state and feds to back off to a line of common sense so we can bring in a competitive second refinery.

Flint Hills has the option of shutting down and going home. We have the option of walking to work everyday. And for all the greenies out there, it still takes a fuel operated vehicle to build and maintain all those bike paths.

The way I see it both candidates were running on Kelly's record. If Kelly wins it should tell his opponents in the future to get their own record and try running on it for a change.

The democratic party was a special interest group in this election. They make VECO look like tightwads when it came to political donations. The republican party was a special interest group in this election who spent money on political donations as well. Will Kelly or Kassel overlook us for a mystic obligation to their special interest groups?

I don't vote for someone because of the political party they joined. I voted democrat and republican this election only because those candidates spoke their minds and proved their goals were in the best interests of my district and the best interests of my state.

So when one of you get to Juneau remember the many individual Alaskans who sent you their.

I guess this could also be called a "sucking up" get together to see who gets to pull more strings in Juneau. And this is the first step in the process to eliminate your elected representative from supporting his/her district needs in favor of supporting political party needs. The minute the first caucus of the political party in power meets every promise made before the election is compromised.

Some legislators have bucked this system and were thrown out of committees, even lost committee chairs. When we going to learn and make all caucus meetings subject to the open meetings act?

The caucus takes public review of proposed bills out of the picture. If the caucus does not like a bill it will not advance anywhere that the public is provided an opportunity to express their views.

Maybe we should decrease the legislative session down to 30 days a year so the power source for the caucus will have to concentrate on passing a budget instead of playing favorites to make their politial party look good!

This is one time I would like to see a "party pooper"!
