So traveling and giving speeches in countries other than one's own qualifies someone for the Presidency because.....?
aksunshine - How do you see Senator Obama's integrity?

Eh. However you want to rationalize the hatred you are dripping with toward certain groups of people. Let's just say that with this in mind, your comments will be taken for what they are worth.

Ok, I'll redirect my statement toward 314159265358979323846. Either way, the commentary is so full of hatred, bias and name calling that it's not worth my time or effort to check out her "facts".
I won't debate the "class" and "education" of the VICE-Presidential nominee, but I will say that these are not the only things that count; experience counts for a lot, so does personal perspective and political leanings (among other characteristics). And in many circles, "class" and "education" = a condescending elitism (read: calling other people rednecks, for example) that is as uncalled for as it is inaccurate.

Wow. Anne Kilkenny. I hope I never make the list of people who "hate you" (her "hate" is so apparent on these pages...). Are you sure it's not the other way around...?

Imusuallyright - Easiest solution is for anyone who doesn't want kids to not have them - while leaving the rest of us alone. Here's an analogy that maybe will be understood: You know the bumper sticker that says "Don't like abortion? Don't have one!" - I propose "Don't like kids, don't have any." Although I'd add that it's none of your (or anyone else's) business how many kids someone else has.
MarieBarr - And here I thought Senator Obama personified altruism...
AKpatriot - We are created equal in the sense that we can all strive for "life, liberty and the pursuit of justice". Other than that, we aren't all the same: some people are richer than others, some prettier, some smarter, some have better toes, some have thicker facial hair...the list goes on. Having different strengths, attributes, goals, priorities, abilities, etc is not an inequality; it's a difference - and many of them are acceptable.
So many of the "pro-life" folk see the "pro-choice" crowd as hypocrites because they are "pro-choice" and yet against the death penalty, most (if not all) necessary conflicts, and social policies that result in more children and adults unable to thrive than would result from other policies. The "pro-choice" crowd (although honestly, there are those of us who support the choice who aren't Democrats - just as there are Dems who are "pro-life") is also considered hypocritical for the focus on "don't judge" "everyone is equal" "quit thinking your way is the 'right' way" while trying to force their beliefs (and in the EXACT same fashion as those they would call hypocrites) on others.
Yes. It takes an open mind and an open discussion. But I don't see compromise coming from many of us that post here. We all think we're right, and those that work for us in D.C. are no different.

Interesting perspective. A couple of unsupported premises, but an interesting take on things, nonetheless.

How many times has Senator Obama left his party line in the spirit of "building bipartisan bridges"? Yeah. This is something that the Democrats and Senator Obama excel at. Can you show me where he and the Democrats have acted bipartisan more so than their counterparts?
Now. Why are conservatives and Republicans often irritated with John McCain and frustrated with him being #1 on the ticket? Because he spends entirely too much time building and crossing these "bipartisan bridges" when we would prefer that he stand firm.
Sure. I'd love for Senator Obama to win this election. I think that the political backlash in the next election cycle might be worth it.

Or there was unethical action by Mr. Begich. Always a possibility, even though we all know Democrats don't engage in anything unethical...ever.

Hmmmm. Pay for the one family who waited to long, or pay for everyone....
We'll pay for everyone to go see the doctor for every stubbed toe and sniffle, which would deprive those who actually could use that time for serious health problems. Not to mention how wages for medical professionals will decrease, thus we won't see the "best and the brightest" providing medical care (kind of like that "lowest bidder" thing). Sounds like Nathan has a point.
Perhaps a yearly deductible (sure, base it on income - and don't reward underemployment) is the way to go - socialists could get their dream and the rest of the population wouldn't face quite the same nightmare. I'd like to see proof of citizenship as a qualification for services, though. I'm willing to bet that there isn't many of those who support socialized health care that could agree to any sort of compromise, though.

Patrick - Perhaps you are right about that decrease in fertility thing...certainly can't tell it from my numerous family members and their numerous children, who all came from the numerous children of those before them. All of us meat eaters, (although I think the term you are actually searching for is "omnivorous"). My genes, while perhaps not "inheritors of the Earth" will at least continue for awhile. The same can't really be said by those who see not having children as a "profound action" or that having children is somehow a selfish act against Earth and humanity. I'm sure Darwin would have something to say about that mindset, but hey, to each their own.
Either way, those of you who choose some sort of vegetarianism, more power to you. Those of us who choose otherwise, the same to us. Choice is wonderful, isn't it?
