Show me the welfare!
Don't you know when government employees take money from taxes to "improve" something it isn't roads or schools- it is their salaries. I'd rather spend it to increase MY salary thank you!
Side note- I have a B.S. in Biology (molecular/biochemistry option), but don't need to write like an a-hole to make a point.

I would single handedly keep Arby's in business :)

We gave up a housing allowance to live on base, but our out of pocket did not go up because fuel prices did. I only made my comment to people who freak out about the military, people with lots of children and welfare moms getting "their" money. It's still good for the economy.

Wasn't this issue already resolved? Abortions are not going to cause WWIII or cause a recession. The law is there. You and your maker can decide what your personal choice is. Can we move along now?

The money is surplus. It isn't coming from our state budget. That said, who cares if the money isn't spend directly on fuel? If I spend every penny I have on fuel this winter, I won't be shopping. If I don't shop at your job people will be laid off. My husbands job requires people to have spending money wastefully. Putting money into the economy is still good. Businesses expanding means more jobs. So those people that are in the military that have their heat paid for will keep my husbands job around, keeping us from being homeless. It isn't suppose to be permanent. We are an Alaskan homeowner who has to pay for fuel and electric so it will help our family buy a woodstove and winterization (and finding ways to wean our family off of GVEA). To those who waste it or don't need it for heating fuel, they are for the most part going to waste it at local businesses. (I know some people will spend it on vacation or whatever, but the majority of the millions will be poured into our economy).

I went to UAA for my first two years, and UAF my second.
UAA is a basic State University. You go in, take your test, and get your degree, nothing special. I had straight A's at UAA. Never attended a class, except to test or turn in work. UAF kicked my rear. I got a C in my first class that I had to be in for 6 hours a week and do about 10 hours a week of homework/studying. I worked my butt off, learned more and got lower grades. It brought me to a whole new level. The standards are higher. That is because the staff there are required to DO as well as TEACH. They require you to be able to actually do things in your field, not just spit out what is in the book. They are actual working scientists, engineers and such. UAA is NOWHERE near as intensive as UAF. I believe it is do to the staff being required to still do research and make relevant studies, as well as bring money to the school through grants. UAA is a party school. UAF is going to turn into UAA because of all the negativity and wanting to be Duke or something. UAF is not about sports, not about having the most students graduate, it is about being able to actually get a job in your field because you know what you're doing, from people who do it.
Also, it's about $2000 a semester for in-state. How is that high tuition? They have done a great job keeping costs down, because they require staff to get money from other places, not just the students.

I have NO idea whether any of this would work or how, but it's the kind of thinking they should be doing in Juneau/Washington. Finding alternatives to oil is the best solution for our children's children.
