I really do wonder where you all have been the last 8 years. Forget about Obama a minute. So you hate him, fear him. Fine, don't vote for him. He obviously doesn't have a chance of getting the 3 (!) electoral Alaskan votes. If he has to depend on Alaska to win, he's toast anyway.

But tell me, how do any of you who go around throwing words like "commie" and "Marxist" and "libbie" wish to explain the past 8 years? Where was your 100% white, Christian, Texas oil man who looks and talks the way you all do when the people of New Orleans needed him? Why is the man responsible for attacking us on 9/11 still running around Pakistan freely laughing at us, anyway? -- (And Musharref is our best buddy, right? What will we do now that he's gone?!) Why has it taken us more than 5 years to subdue a two-bit Third World country into submission -- and it will take us how much longer before we can finally get out of there with our Mission truly Accomplished? And now we want to threaten the Russians in Georgia? Putin is laughing in our faces! Oh, and let's not forget the loss of our individual rights and liberties. Been to the airport lately?

Is Obama the answer to all this? Maybe not. Is McCain? If he's elected, I sure as hell hope so. But you all have a lot of damned nerve sitting there calling those of us who don't agree with you names, telling us to get out of the state, etc. You're damned right I am a neo-Marxist Liberal Eastcoast Pinhead. And no, I don't live in Alaska. I live "down in the States." And right now, we need a president who can unite and restore this country, domestically and internationally, to the glory it once had, and can have again. But given what I read daily in this paper, I just wonder if either man has a hope in hell of getting the job done.

Akblugirl -- really like your comments. As for the rest of you -- I am prepared for whatever the outcome will be come Nov. 4. If McCain wins, fine, I will survive. He can't do worse than Bush, that's obvious. But based on what some of you write, and the hatred you have towards those of us who disagree with you, I just wonder, what will you do if your side loses? For 8 long years, we have lived with your president, your Congress (for 6 of the 8), your policies, your Karl Rove. Did we have a choice? In fact, over the past 40 years, only 12 were under a Democratic Pres. Yet we survived. So I am just curious: what if, by chance, our candidate wins? What then?

Just curious: do you all know what the President does? When people question her ability to successfully do the job if, G od forbid, she is called upon, it is not meant (at least, from me, maybe not so of others) out of disrespect of her intelligence, energy, etc. She is a fine person, and personally I couldn't care less about her gender, her parenting talents, her ability to shoot wildlife, her middle name, or her shoe size. Running this country is not like running Alaska. McCain has the experience obviously, and so too does Biden. Obama is green, we all know that, but he has at least worked in DC, has international experience, and has a clue how things work down there. You all may not like his beliefs or political views -- fine. But people, be honest: Bush had run Texas, Reagan California before they assumed the Presidency. These states are bigger than many countries. But Alaska?

Can Sarah Palin do it? She may have to. But you all know she was not chosen for her qulifications. There are many incredibly talented, qualified, capable men and women whom Sen. McCain could have chosen. Gov. Palin was not chosen because of her qualifications or ability to lead, and you all know this. Can she do the job? Let's hope so. But calling people names just because they are pointing out the obvious makes you look foolish, that's all. It does't make you right.

AKhusky, as I recall, I usually agree with your views. Not this time. I question his choice of Palin on numerous levels, but sorry, Todd has as much responsibility for raising the kids as she does, and in this case, if she's the VP, then he has more responsibility. It's the 21st century. Being a father is no different than being a mother, and if your mother is the Vice President of the US, well, she may not be around all that much. That's the choice these folks are making. I live with it, and sometimes, when I feel like I am doing more than my 50%, I do resent it. Hope Todd is a bigger man than I am.

What sucks here is how this idiotic side show distracts from what matters -- what's going on domestically and globally. the wars, the economy, energy -- what about all that? I don't give a rat's tail about Sarah and her family issues, and damn it, if she becomes VP, I expect her in the White House on Day 1 meeting with McCain and learning the ropes FAST. Where will all you, who are so obsessed with Obama's middle name and Bristol's boyfriend and all this other idiocy be? When the Russians retake the next former Soviet state, when Iran succeeds in getting the Bomb, when all hell breaks out in Pakistan or they attack our interests in India, when another war breaks out between the Israelis and the Lebanese, will you all have an interest? Or will I hear something about how you all don't care what happens Outside?

Hate to point out something obvious here, but shouldn't the headline read that the AFL-CIO endorses Obama over McCain? Where'd McCain go? Is he still running? What's he up to these days? I am looking forward to his speech on Thursday, and I hope it's from Minnesota, not Mississippi. Regardless, all this stuff with Palin is overshadowing what the man has to say about moving this country forward, and that's really what this election is about, isn't it? Or was that the idea all along?

I will vote for Obama despite the fact he is a Christian. I wish we could get someone in the White House who simply believed in the rule of law, who respected the Constitution, who did not believe that before he/she made an important decision about war and peace he/she had to first consult some Minister or other. But sadly, this is the America we live in. There is no separation between Church and state, never has been, never will be.

let me get this straight: "life happens"??? yes indeed it does. we all make our choices, and then we all have the right to deal with what happens. or do we? I absolutely agree that the press should leave this kid alone. on the other hand the hypocricy of a party and a movement which is centered upon marriage, family values, etc., but then can simply shrug it all off when something like this happens TO THE DAUGHTER OF THE VP NOMINEE NO LESS is amazing. if this were Obama's daughter you folks would have a field day. yes, leave this girl alone -- and every other girl and woman who, on a daily basis, deals with the challenges of "life."

it was incredibly cynical, selfish, and cruel to put Gov. Palin in this position. She is a very talented woman with a great future. she is also someone who, until 2007, did not even hold a passport. Serving as mayor of Wasilla and then as Gov of AK is one thing -- VP, my friends, is a tad more complicated. You all are so fond of saying how you don't care about what goes on Outside -- well, it's a big nasty world out here as Gov. Palin will quickly discover. DC is a snake pit. Bush was Gov of TX, Reagan CA. Those states are bigger than many countries -- they may have been outsiders, but they had a clue what they were getting into. Running this country is not for the faint at heart. all just for a few more votes. what was he thinking?
