FAIRBANKS — An Iron Chef Cookof is one of the features at the second annual Food Day, to be held Oct. 17 at the Wood Center on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
The Iron Chef cookoff begins at 11 a.m. and pits deans from the agricultural and fisheries schools in the Surf vs. Turf challenge. School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Dean Michael Castellini will prepare halibut cheeks, while School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Science Dean Carol Lewis will cook reindeer meat. Each contestant will be assisted by a UAF professional chef. Members of the Midnight Sun Chefs Association will judge the competition.
Other events include A Taste of Alaska buffet featuring all Alaska-grown food beginning at 11:30 a.m., until the food runs out; a noon game of Food Jeopardy between scientists and graduate students; healthy lifestyle and agricultural exhibits from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
