FAIRBANKS — Dermot and Terrence Cole are the recipients of this year’s Distinguished Citizens of the Year Award. The twins were chosen by former recipients of the Midnight Sun Council, Boy Scouts of America award.

The Coles will be honored at the Distinguished Citizens of the Year Award Banquet on Dec. 14 at the Westmark Hotel.

“It’s the right time to recognize their contributions,” former recipient Mike Cook said. “They are both deserving of the award.

“Besides, they are twins,” he said. “It would be difficult to pick between the two. If we had to choose one of them, which would it be?”

Dermot is the longtime columnist of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, and Terrence is a history professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Both contribute time and effort to organizations in Fairbanks.

The Distinguished Citizens of the Year Award Banquet is one of the Midnight Sun Council’s major fundraisers throughout the year. Tickets are available by calling the Boy Scout office at 452-1976.
