FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell says he's forming an exploratory committee to look at the possibility of a run for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in 2014.
Treadwell made that announcement Friday at a GOP luncheon in Fairbanks.
He says he's not declaring his candidacy "at this time."
Treadwell was elected to his current post for the first time in 2010.
He says he's enjoying his job as lieutenant governor and feels there is "much to do to help our governor expand jobs, support families, build up production and expand opportunities for Alaskans."
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich, a Democrat, won his first term in 2008.
