To the editor:
The candidates running for state House in District 2 are Reps. Bob Miller and Tammie Wilson. The new district boundaries place them in the same district. Whether or not a person lives in District 2, I hope they will support Bob Miller. I think it is in everyone’s best interest in District 2 to vote for Bob. Every legislator we send to Juneau is critical for our entire community. Supporting and voting for Bob Miller will assure that we have a representative who will not vote to give away our resources without some defined benefit to the residents of this state, will support the natural gas project for Fairbanks, will support energy relief for Interior residents and will continue to be a strong supporter of education. He works well with other legislators and has a proven record of voting for legislation that will help us.
Tammie Wilson agrees with almost everything the governor does, and she votes that way. Gov. Parnell did appoint her to fill a vacancy, so this is not surprising. She voted for and stands by the “$2 billion tax break” for oil companies. She voted “no” on every bill that would have funded our schools. That is particularly shocking to me because she is the chairwoman of the subcommittee on education. If you have a child with autism, Rep. Wilson voted against help for you. If you’re a teacher, you are probably buying more out of pocket for your students and dealing with the stress that accompanies more children and families in economic hardship. If you have to decide between turning up the thermostat just a little and buying diapers, remember Rep. Wilson voted “no” for energy relief.
Based on my research, here’s a summary for Rep. Wilson: maximum benefit for Alaska’s resources? No. Support for public education? No. Support for food safety? No. Support for energy relief? No. Support for clean air? No. Support for Gov. Parnell and oil companies? Yes.
Join me in making the best choice for District 2 and the Interior. Vote for Bob Miller.
