What: Week in the Woods is an opportunity to leave our everyday routines behind and gather in the remote boreal forest, learning and creating in a multi-generational community. It is a rare chance to live and study with an amazing cast of instructors, including woodworkers, craftspeople, artisans and naturalists.

Cost: Adult learner registration fee: $490 youth/adult co-learners. Registration fee: $580 (fee covers one adult and one youth) Additional youth co-learner fee: $250.

A Week on the River

Ages: 8-98

When: From 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, until 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10

Where: Tanana River, 30 miles downstream from Fairbanks

What: Week on the River is a multi-generational summer camp held on the Tanana River. Activities include everything from basics like knot tying to group projects like making a mud oven and using it to cook the day’s catch. Participants will gather raw materials and transform them into useful items as well as learn skills like tracking. Learn more at: thefolkschoolfairbanks.org/week-on-the-river/
