FAIRBANKS - High winds and blowing snow have again forced the closure of the Steese Highway at Eagle Summit.
Friday, road crews managed to get the road open over a 15-mile stretch between 101-116 Mile where it climbs over the 3,652 summit, but the road drifted shut again Saturday. Winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 mph and new snow are being reported in the region.
Gates are down and the road is impassible, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation.
