The 12th annual Run of the Valkyries is scheduled for July 6, and the 8-kilometer race starts and finishes at Pioneer Park.
Runners and walkers are welcome to participate in the race that starts at the Square Dance Hall inside the park.
Participants go from Pioneer Park and move along the Chena River Trail to its intersection at Barnette Street before returning to the park.
Prizes will be awarded for fastest times and for participants with the best Valkyries-themed costumes.

In-person registration is available during the bib pickup from 3-7 p.m. July 5 at Woolly Rhino, 250 Third St.

The Run of the Valkyries is the fourth event in this year’s Running Club North Usibelli Series.
Ben Kahoe and Josh Baurick tied for first place Wednesday in the 200-meter dash of the All-Comers Track and Field Meet at West Valley High School.
Kahoe and Baurick crossed the finish line simultaneously in 30 seconds. Riga Grubis was third in 33.0 and Suzanne Billings placed fourth in 47.2.
Samuel Delamere and Daniel Abramowicz each collected top-two finishes.
Delamere won the 1,600 run in 4:46.00 and finished in 57.8 seconds for second place in the 400 dash. Camron Herron, a 2019 West Valley graduate and incoming freshman at the University of Arizona, won the 400 in 55.7 seconds.
Abramowicz won the 800 run in 2:27.0 and was runner-up in the 1,600 in 4:48.0.
Billings was the only entry in the 100 dash and she finished in 20.1.
Chris Benshoof was the only participant in the 3,200 run and she cross the finish line in 13:13.0.
Twenty-five people competed Wednesday.
Eight-year-old Lorelei Alexander just edged 6-year-old Eevy Flaharty by 1 second in the girls 1-mile event of the year’s first Kids XC race at West Valley High School.
Alexander finished in 9 minutes, 33 seconds and Flaharty clocked 9:34 in the cross-country running competition.
Eden Finney, 4, won the .5-mile girls race in 5:05, and Liam Jensen, 10, took first in the boys race in 7:24.
Tripp Wood won the boys 1-mile race in 8:41.
Dusk 2 Dawn
Two volunteers are needed for the fifth annual Dusk 2 Dawn Run on Thursday.
The race starts at 12:47 a.m. at the Ski Hut at the University of Alaska Fairbanks West Ridge Trails and finishes there at 2:58 a.m.
The volunteers are needed for check-in, registration and close-out help.
