The University of Alaska Fairbanks swim program will host a water safety class Saturday morning at the Patty Center pool, followed by a Swimming Pool Party Palooza in the afternoon.

The two-hour safety session starts at 10 a.m. and will teach participants about general and cold water safety, pool rules, ice safety, buddy safety, rescue techniques, emergency planning and responding, proper life jacket use and more. Registration costs $50 for one participant and $40 for multiple siblings. On-site registration is $60.

The Pool Party Palooza runs from 2-4 p.m. and will introduce swimmers to the four competitive swimming strokes, diving from the starting blocks and flip turns. The two-hour session is $30 per participant and will end with a pool party.

Both programs are open to ages 5-14.
