The University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team opens its regular season on the road today at the Oredigger Classic hosted by the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.

UAF is coming off a 14-13 overall 2018 season, its first winning season since 2008. Last season’s 12 conference wins were the most since 2003.

The Nanooks return 10 players from last season, including two Great Northwest Athletic Conference 2019 Preseason All-Conference team members outside hitter Lahra Weber and setter Cate Whiting. The junior duo also earned 2018 All-GNAC First Team honors for their performances last season.

2019 newcomers include freshmen Colleen File, Eden Murchison and Sophie Schilling and junior transfer AveRee Reynolds.

In addition to the Nanooks and the Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Mesa, Dallas Baptist, Fresno Pacific, Lubbock Christian, Northern State and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will be attending the Oredigger Classic.

The Nanooks play their first match at 9 a.m. AKDT against University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and then take on Northern State at noon AKDT.

On Saturday, UAF plays Fresno Pacific at 7:30 a.m. AKDT and Colorado School of Mines at 9:30 a.m. AKDT.
