The University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks swim team released its schedule for the 2019-20 season Monday, which includes three two-day home meets and two unofficial appearances at the Patty Center Pool.
“We are bringing in one of the most academically and athletically talented groups of incoming freshmen. Almost half of our conference scorers are returning. We are competing against new NCAA Division I opponents, and we have a brand new coaching staff,” head coach Becca Weiland said Monday.
Weiland, who is in her first year as head coach after serving as an associate head coach for the program, hired Kelsey Leeson as her assistant coach. Leeson began her duties in August.
The Nooks will hold their two unofficial events — the Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon and the alumni meet — on Sept. 21 and Oct. 4, respectively.
The team’s first official meet runs from Sept. 29-30 against Division I San Diego State University at the Patty Center Pool. UAF will also host Azusa Pacific on Oct. 18 and 19 and Seattle University on Nov. 15 and 16.
The remainder of the Nanooks season is on the road and includes the Pepperdine Winter Invitational and matchups against Pacific Lutheran University, Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria.
The post season begins with the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Championships from Feb. 12-15 in Los Angeles, California. The NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships will take place March 11-14 in Geneva, Ohio.
