Shadeed Shabazz contributed 30 points to the University of Alaska men’s basketball team’s 98-88 road win over Saint Martin’s on Thursday in Lacey, Washington.
The game was the Nanooks’ first since their win over Concordia on Dec. 7.
Shabazz was helped by Koby Huerta, who contributed 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Spencer Sweet tallied 18 points, followed by Alex Sommerfield with 17 and Mawich Kachjaani with 12.
The win over the Saints advances Alaska’s record to 4-7 overall and 3-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Nanooks are now one of two unbeaten teams in the conference.
The Seattle Pacific Falcons, who hold the other 3-0 conference record will face off against the Nanooks on Saturday in Seattle. Tipoff is set for 3:15 p.m. AKST.
UAF women fall to Saints
The UAF women’s team lost its Thursday matchup against Saint Martin’s 95-62.
The Nanooks were led on offense by Sam Tolliver and Jocelyn Gandara, who each contributed 18 points. Sabrina Ungaro had 13 points.
Alaska, 6-6 overall and 1-2 GNAC, next faces off against Seattle Pacific, 2-9 overall and 0-3 GNAC, on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Seattle.
