University of Alaska Fairbanks goaltender Anton Martinsson was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team on Thursday, according to a UAF news release.
The native of Klippan, Sweden and soon-to-be Nanooks senior was a first-time recipient of the award, which is coordinated by members of the College Sports Information Directoprs of America.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teaams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their performances in athletics and academics. The honorees are selected from NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA programs.
The At-Large All-District selections advance to the ballot for the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, which is scheduled to be announced in June.
UAF has 10 athletic programs, three of which are Division I (men’s hockey, coed rifle and men’s and women’s Nordic skiing). The others are Division II — men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, women’s swimming.
Martinsson maintains a 3.64 grade-point average as a business administration major at UAF.
Earlier this year, he was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team and as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year.
Martinsson compiled a 7-15-2-2 record in 25 games in 2018-19 for the Nanooks. He had a .910 saves percentage (648 stops among 712 shots on goal) and 2.72 goals against average.
He also earned back-to-back shutouts, the first for a Nanooks netminder in more than five seasons.
